Winter to Spring: My Favorite Transitional Outfit Tips

Spring is here– or so the calendar says! The temperatures are still chilly here in Boston, and I’ve found myself stuck between wanting to ditch the winter coat but still needing some warmth. The good news? I don’t have to keep reaching for that bulky puffer. Here’s how I stay cozy and stylish during a cool spring without feeling like I’m still in winter mode. And spoiler alert– I have found almost all of these pieces thrifting at Indy Clover!
1. Layer Smart, Not Heavy
The key to staying warm is layering wisely. Instead of one big coat, I go for lightweight, breathable layers that I can adjust throughout the day. A fitted turtleneck under a light sweater or a structured blazer over a knit top traps warmth while giving me flexibility if the sun decides to show up. I found this white t-shirt at Indy Clover Wakefield and have been wearing it non-stop as the base layering piece for all of my spring outfits!

2. Invest in a Stylish Trench
A classic trench coat is my go-to for spring. It provides just enough warmth while looking fresh and seasonally appropriate. I come across trench coats very frequently while I’m out thrifting at Indy Clover, so it’s a perfect lightweight and cost-friendly option for outerwear in the spring time!

3. Don’t Underestimate a Good Scarf
One of my favorite ways to add warmth without the bulk is to wear a knitted neckscarf or bandana. I’ll either tie it around my neck or my shoulders. Not only does it provide a little extra warmth, it can be a fun pop of color for your outfit.

4. Opt for Warm Fabrics for less layers
Choosing pieces with warmer material contents like wool or cashmere are a great way to keep warm without bundling up. Wool and cashmere are warmer materials because they are excellent insulators. Their fibers trap air, which helps retain body heat, keeping you warm even in chilly weather. This makes them ideal for spring layering—warm without being bulky!

Staying warm in early spring doesn’t mean I have to sacrifice my style with a big coat. By layering smartly and choosing the right fabrics, I can feel comfortable while embracing the new season. When I’m looking for unique, high-quality pieces to refresh my wardrobe, I always check out Indy Clover because it’s the perfect place to find stylish new-to-me pieces to add to my spring wardrobe!
